The Concession

After a day of deafening silence, the weight of the world presses heavily on many people’s shoulders. The air is thick with tension and uncertainty, the aftermath of a tumultuous election has left so many reeling. But I stand tall, with my head held high, as one who refused to be swayed by the siren song of fear and selfishness. No, I chose a different path, one that embraces all people, regardless of their race, gender, or social standing. As a direct descendant of powerful women, I carry their legacy with me, a fierce determination to stand as a beacon of light for justice and equality.

My ancestors know all too well what it means to be treated unfairly. In the face of extreme adversity they developed the Underground Railroad, guiding their brothers and sisters to safety through dark and treacherous paths. They bear witness to the atrocities of the Tuskegee experiment, where their husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons were used as mere test subjects for the sake of scientific advancement.

In the Bible Belt South, our brave and unbreakable mothers endured the inhumane and demeaning practice of slave breeding on plantations, where they were reduced to mere commodities.   Their bodies were seen as nothing more than vessels to perpetuate a system of oppression, stripping them of their humanity and treating them like livestock.  Despite this, they not only fought for their own freedom, but joined hands with women of all races in the battle for women’s rights.

But our mothers, oh our mothers, have been the backbone of our nation displaying divine strength and resilience. Our ancestral mothers have showed unwavering love in the face of deep-seated hate and fear.  Their determination for freedom is a constant source of inspiration for me. My wish is that their tenacity will ignite a fire within you to uphold the torch that defends against atrocities towards humanity.  As we face defeat in this battle, let us remember that their tales remind us they were not simply victims or survivors, but mighty warriors and esteemed leaders. I urge you to continue your leadership with unflinching bravery, following in the footsteps of our mothers. To those who felt powerless and immobilized after years of injustice, I implore you to tap into your inner resilience. And for those who were indifferent, I pray that your love for yourself and humanity is reignited.

Do not allow this loss to discourage you. We have made progress in immeasurable ways, resonating deep within the depths of our nation’s spirit. The very fact that a woman of color can run to become president in this country, when just in 1974 women (regardless of race) could not purchase a home without a man’s signature, speaks volumes about how far we have advanced.

Our hearts may be burdened but our determination remains unshakeable. We will not passively witness the forces of fear and animosity. We are the champions of love, and guardians of humanity. Our allegiance lies with empathy and affection, not dominance and selfishness. Though the path may be arduous, we will not falter.

As a messenger of joy, I advise you to pause and take a breath amidst the chaos.  Do not give in to fear, for it still holds power over many. Pursue your passions, embrace joy, and revel in bliss. This country has long been the battleground for human rights, with both victorious moments and painful setbacks. We believe love conquers all.  With a sincere heart I pray for our elected officials.  We will not be disheartened by the temporary rush to power and the illusions of victory. Our voices will persist in spreading love. We shall prevail, for we are warriors of love, and nothing can stop us.
